Erin Napier Reveals a Secret On ‘Home Town Takeover’ That’s Become a New Design Inspiration

When it comes to Erin Napier‘s design style, one can expect it to be a marriage of the past and a modern pop of today. Considered to be the ideator and queen behind “grand millennial” style, everything old is new again. Incorporating everything from wallpaper, grandma’s old rug, and knick-knacks galore, Erin Napier has found her calling. She is a major advocate of preserving the heart of a home’s integrity and using natural wood as it is. However, she recently shared a new design trick that has captured the attention of at-home designers: using plates.

While working on a home in Sebring during Season 3 of Home Town Takeover, Erin curated the home’s dining room with a plate collection. But it was not going in a hutch or curio cabinet; she put it on the wall. While this concept may not be for everyone, it showcases how Erin’s mind continues to evolve. Working on hundreds of homes, she’s continued to reinvent her styles and help viewers find new visions and inspirations.

Erin Napier Dreams Of a Plate Room

Delighting fans season after season, Erin and Ben Napier travel to a new small town in Home Town Takeover to help breathe new life and revitalize the community. The Home Town spin-off follows as the couple utilizes their powers, combining the renovation of homes and businesses from the town’s prominent denizens and restoring the history and charm the town is known for. For Season 3, the Napiers took on the task of bringing Sebring, Florida, also known as The City on the Circle, to new heights. Beyond helping the businesses located directly on the Circle, they took on the task of helping Jen, a single mom and kindergarten teacher, bring her historic home up to date as a place where the community can gather after football games and other functions. As the first home people see when they arrive in Sebring, the Napiers knew this project had to be something special.

The home, which just so happened to belong to Jen’s former teacher, mentor, and inspiration, was intended to help her start a new beginning with her daughters. Although we weren’t privy to whether the entire home had been revitalized, we witnessed the transformation on the first floor. The kitchen became functional, as one of Jen’s daughters enjoyed cooking. But it was the dining room that became the special project for Erin. Incorporating some vintage charm, Erin outfitted the space with beautiful antique furniture, inviting wallpaper, and a plate wall. As Erin proudly said, “There’s nothing more Southern to me than a nice plate wall. It’s something you can add to for the rest of your life so it becomes a plate room.” That plate wall may be Erin projecting her own dream onto Jen, but the finished product resulted into something wonderful.

Erin Napier Knows How To Add Charm

Using some treasures from Laurel and finds at Sebring Pottery, Erin incorporated a splash of floral china with decorative plates to become part of this focal wall. Since the room was going to have patterned wallpaper, she opted not to go too crazy with patterns, allowing the collage installation to tell the story. As she pointed out, it was a feature that could be added to over time, and Jen’s dining room became a story. As she adds to it, she can share memorable moments that will ultimately become a history lesson of their own in the future. As she invites friends and family over, she now has a conversation starter for every occasion.

As Country Living has pointed out, Erin’s design concept can be utilized in other spaces of a home. Whether you keep it neutral with porcelain plates, add a pop with a cohesive motif, go bold with some quirk, or let loose with a design creation, at-home DIYers now have a place to look for inspiration and how they can incorporate it into their own home. As Erin Napier continues to rise through the ranks, her design touch has helped bring out the charm that her shows are known for. Keep your eyes peeled for Erin’s next great idea.
