When it’s my turn to have everyone over to the house for Thanksgiving dinner, I serve the same dishes, using the same recipes from the same cookbook my mom relied on when my brothers and I were growing up. Sure, it’s a little dated, with lots of scribbles and dog-eared pages, but I’m a traditionalist when it comes to my Thanksgiving meal. Fortunately for me, nobody in the family ever seems to tire of the menu.
The tablescape, on the other hand, is a separate matter altogether. The dining room is where I get creative, combining unexpected colors and patterns and indulging in a new centerpiece for the table when I see something I can’t resist. Some years I’ll set out place cards and I always seem to find a unique baking dish that can go from the oven to the table (see below).

Last week, I set out to find some of these unexpected gems for my Thanksgiving tables. A lot of local shops seem to have jumped straight to Christmas decor but I found others with a selection of lovely items for Thanksgiving. Here’s what stood out to me.
