Highland Park Distillery, located on the remote Isle of Orkney, has unveiled a brand refresh, and a new look for its 12, 15, and 18 Year Old single malts. Inspired by its island home, Highland Park has reimagined the packaging of its single malts through a contemporary color palette that reflects the Orkney landscape.
The new packaging will be rolled out globally from October 2024. The award-winning whisky inside the bottles remains unchanged, with subtle notes of heathery Orcadian peat making the whisky truly distinctive.
Inspired By Orkney
Highland Park Distillery was founded on Orkney in 1798 and is one of Scotland’s northernmost distilleries. Orkney is famed for its stunning and rugged landscape, dramatic coastlines, sunsets, and Neolithic and Viking heritage.
In terms of whisky making, Orkney is unique for a few reasons. Firstly, the Gulf Stream creates a rather temperate climate that is ideally suited to long-term whisky maturation. In addition to this, the peat that is found on Orkney is infused with floral heather rather than tree roots (trees find it difficult to grow on Orkney), which gives the whisky a distinctive profile that is unlike anything else in the world.
The new packaging reflects Highland Park’s island home with its temperate climate embodied by the muted color palette. The Orcadian peat is represented by the heather-flecked labels, paying tribute to the whisky’s unique flavor. A subtle wood grain pattern also reflects the brand’s commitment to using only the finest sherry-seasoned oak casks for maturation.
Highland Park has retained its unique bottle shape but has scaled back on the Nordic-inspired glasswork. Now, the bottle is simply adorned with the distillery ‘h’ logo and the phrase “PRODUCT OF ORKNEY”.
Highland Park has also demonstrated its long-standing commitment to sustainability by using 100% recyclable cardboard cartons made from FSC-certified forests.
The Heart & Soul of Highland Park
Global Brand Director, Paul Condron, said, “For Highland Park, everything comes back to Orkney, from how we craft our whisky, to how it gets its distinctive taste, to the incredible community of people, who do things their own way. We’ve been here for more than 200 years, and the beauty and creativity of our island home continues to inspire us, as well as the unique flavor of the local heathered peat, which, with the new packaging design, is now celebrated, front and center. We’re excited to share this new design direction for Highland Park, which truly reflects the freshness and modernity of our Orkney home.”
Highland Park’s Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, said: “Our 12 , 15 and 18 Year Old whiskies sit as the heart and soul of Highland Park. It’s Orkney’s heathered peat that gives us our subtly smoky flavor and it’s as unique as the place it’s made. We know that’s what our community really loves about Highland Park. With the packaging update, we have a great opportunity to celebrate a new look, whilst continuing to share the distinctive, consistent whisky we’re famed for. It’s a flavor that just can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world.”
